Lodge & Tented Botswana Safari

Modumo
This twelve night safari is a combination of mobile camping and lodge accommodation; one of the highlights being two nights at the luxury Modumo lodge Okavango Delta which is only accessible by light aircraft. Also visiting the Moremi Game Reserve, Savuti Marsh, and Chobe National Park, this trip is focused on maximising game viewing opportunities. The last two nights are spent at a lodge on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls.

The itinerary combines six nights of non-participation mobile camping with five nights in hotels and lodges. This means that you do not erect your own tent, this will already have been done when you arrive at the campsite. Tents are 1.8 metres high (high enough to stand in) with camp beds. Staff members (one guide and four camp staff) will also do all the camp chores and the preparation of the meals. The vehicles used are top specification 4X4 Toyota Land Cruisers and Land Rovers.

Itinerary

Days 1 & 2. Okavango Delta: The safari officially starts in Maun, the nerve centre of the Botswana safari industry. [Flights to Maun from Johannesburg, Cape Town or Victoria Falls can easily be arranged.] After meeting by your guide, depart by charter flight into the Okavango Delta, to stay for the next two nights in fixed tented chalets with en suite bathrooms at Modumo Camp. Modumo will be our base whilst exploring the Delta by mekoro and on game walks on the surrounding flood plains. Overnight camping in Okavango Delta.

Mambo
Days 3 & 4. Moremi Game Reserve: After an early morning activity and brunch we take a scenic flight over the Delta as we return back to Maun. On arrival we set off immediately for the Moremi Game Reserve, where the next two days are spent on game drives and game viewing. Overnight camping in Moremi Game Reserve.

Days 5 & 6. Savute: Our journey continues north along the Khwai River to the Savuti Marsh, located in the southern sector of Chobe National Park. The Savuti Marsh is situated near the Magwikhwe Sand Ridge, and is part of the ancient shoreline of an enormous inland sea formed in the area an estimated 2-5 million years ago. Close to the Magwikhwe Sand Ridge lie the Savuti Hills where there many are Bushman paintings on the vertical rock faces. Overnight camping in the Savuti area.

Days 7 & 8. Chobe: We continue north towards the banks of the Chobe River where we will stay for the next two nights. During the dry season Chobe has the highest concentration of game in Botswana and our time here is spent game viewing in the area. Overnight camping.

Day 9. Chobe: Spend the morning game viewing along the Chobe River Front, followed in the afternoon by a sunset boat cruise on the Chobe River. The Chobe is famous for its abundance of elephants – the highest concentration in Africa!  It is also renowned for huge herds of buffalo and for its spectacular sunsets. Overnight at the Chobe Safari Lodge.

Victoria Falls
Days 10 & 11. Victoria Falls: After breakfast we drive to Livingstone on the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls, crossing the Zambezi on the Kazungula ferry. Stay for the next two nights at Lost Horizons Lodge near the falls. The next two days are spent at your own leisure to partake in the many adventure activities on offer, or to visit the Victoria Falls and explore the town. All activities at own expense.

Day 12. Fly out: The safari officially ends after breakfast today.  If you require a transfer to the airport for onward travel, this will be arranged.
