Mobile Safaris offer an excellent value for money alternative to a lodge safari. The flexibility of a mobile safari allows travellers access to remote wilderness areas that are far beyond the reaches of a morning game drive out of a lodge. A mobile safari is led by a professional guide who is accompanied by a small group of camp staff and equipment necessary for a self contained journey through the wilderness.

A typical itinerary may take from six to twelve days, visiting various different areas within the national parks and reserves, spending two or three nights at any one location. Affordable private mobile safaris can now be undertaken with Okavango Expeditions. There is no set departure dates, no other people in the vehicle apart from your group, your guide and camp hand. Prices from £315 per person per night all inclusive.

There are a large variety of mobile safaris available, from semi-participation trips where holiday guests are required to partake in daily camp chores, to luxury safaris with all the comforts of a lodge and a service team to manage the camp. Whatever grade of safari you choose, one thing is certain, camping no longer means having to rough it. In fact, even a budget, participation safari offers a level of comfort that most people would not associate with camping in the wild.

Semi participation mobile safaris - this is where guests put up their own tents and help with some camp chores. Accommodation is in large two-man tents with mattresses. Non participation (mid range) mobile safaris - accommodation is in larger two-man dome tents (big enough to stand in), with a mattress and stretcher beds. These are non participation safaris and all camp set-up is done in advance of your arrival by separate logistics crew. Meals are of a good standard, usually with two or three courses. Luxury mobile safaris - travellers are accommodated in spacious, walk-in safari tents with a private veranda. Tents have proper beds complete with comfortable mattresses, duvets, pillows, fitted carpets, and battery powered lamps. The en-suite bathrooms include a dressing table, hand basin, hot water bucket shower, flush chemical toilet, luxurious bath linen and bathroom accessories.
