Considerations

0-5 years – Generally at this age children do not have the right attention span to go on safari. Some lodges do have children-specific safaris or the option for a private guide and vehicle so that you can ensure the safari is suited to your child.

6-12 years – Children of this age tend to love safaris especially when they get to track animals. However it is still worth thinking about how long your children will be happy to sit in a vehicle before they get restless. We find children of this age love touching tame animals and there are a few optional day visits that can give you an opportunity to do this. We tend to find that the simple things such as being outdoors, having a swimming pool to play in or short horse or cycle rides are the best activities at this age.

> 13 years – Teenagers tend to love safaris and are interested in what the guides have to say as well as learning about the local culture and meeting the locals. At this age sporting activities are extremely popular. Africa has a fantastic variety: snorkelling, diving, water-skiing, deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, canoeing, kite-surfing, sailing, quad-biking.
