Amboseli Safari Holidays - luxury Kenya Safaris with Imagine Africa

Shompole Lodge, Luxury safari holidays in Kenya

We regret to tell you that Shompole has closed for the time being due to some issues between the owners of the lodge and the reserve. It was one of Kenya, and indeed Africa's, most unusual and outstanding safari locations, and we very much hope it will open again soon.

In the meantime, can we recommend some awesome alternatives?...

- For an equally stylish and contemporary property that is in a similary stunning setting - have a look at Saruni Samburu.
- For views that rival those from Shompole, we have to mention another of our all time favourite properties in Kenya - Elsas Kopje.

Shompole Lodge is situated high on the Nguruman Escarpment near Lake Natron and the Tanzanian border – and is surely the most stylish lodge in Kenya. Guests enjoy the chic, simple luxury at this award-winning lodge, the perfect choice for a safari holiday in Kenya's Great Rift Valley.

A unique and artistically appointed lodge, using natural materials, smooth white walls and water to create a fresh and unusual approach to the bush experience – Shompole will appeal to the style conscious, but also to anyone looking for luxury, outstanding food, tranquility and an excellent safari experience.

Shompole Lodge
has just six rooms – each looking out over the Great Rift Valley and Lake Natron in the distance.  All the rooms are en-suite, and are constructed with naturally occurring white quartz stone and pale thatch.

The main lounge and dining area are built under a high thatch roof overlooking Mount Shompole, and are ideally positioned to make the most of both the incredible view and the cool breeze.

Activities at Shompole are unscheduled and organised according to the preferences of our guests. When you arrive, the manager will find out what you want to do during your stay, and plan a schedule of activities accordingly.  The variety of landscapes available at Shompole means there is lots to do, including morning and afternoon game drives, Masai guided bush walks, picnics, sundowner visits to Lake Natron to see the flamingos, night drives, and guided mountain biking. There is also a therapist on hand for massages and other treatments.

Getting to Shompole

The only way in is by private charter.  From Nairobi it is a 35 minute flight - a spectacular one as you fly over the Ngong Hills and down the escarpment into the Great Rift Valley.  Its also easy to get a fly between the Masai Mara and Shompole (about 45 mins) - also with a private charter.  As you might imagine, this does increase the costs associated with Shompole when compared to places that can be reached on scheduled flights - but take our word for it - the additional costs for the flights are worth every penny, you'll be rewarded by the most spectacular places in the world.
