This is a charming and homely beach lodge located on Kiwayu Island, north of Lamu. Built by Mike and Caroline Kennedy in the early 1990's, there are 7 comfortable bandas with palm-matting walls and floors and thatched roofs. They are positioned to offer panoramic views of the ocean and surrounds, and have en-suite safari showers and flush toilets.
The camp blends harmoniously with the surroundings and is totally eco-friendly, running on solar and wind power. The food is simple, delicious and wonderfully fresh, with lots of seafood as well as international dishes.
Kiwayu Island is twelve miles long and half a mile wide and has an extensive mangrove creek system - ideal for bird watching and light tackle fishing. Added to this is a six mile virgin beach and some spectacular snorkeling straight off the beach. Munira Camp also has two 33 foot motorized sailing dhows which can be hired for exploratory trips around the Lamu archipelago.
