Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya, and to its north and south it has some of the finest beaches and coral reefs that Africa has to offer. In recent years some of these beaches have been over developed, with large resort style hotels lining the shore for mile upon mile. These areas are still capable of providing an excellent beach holiday, with good service and first class watersports in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. On the other hand, if you are looking for an authentic slice of coastal Kenya, you are far better off in the Lamu archipelago further up the coast.
