Known to many as the home of Elsa, the lioness made famous in the film Born Free, Meru has a wide array of landscapes - including forest, swamp and savannah -

all fed by numerous streams flowing off the foothills of Mt Kenya and the Nyambene Hills.

With lion, leopard, buffalo, huge elephant herds and northern species such as Grevy’s zebra, beisa oryx and reticulated giraffe, visitors can observe animals without being disturbed by another soul. Birding in Meru is exceptional. The mosaic of waterways, riverine forest and dry bush harbour more species than any other park in Kenya, including many rare local varieties.
