Water, so scarce in many places, is plentiful at Desert Rose. The main lounge/dining area is situated with panoramic views of the landscape and the swimming pool is perched on the edge of a cliff. Using home-grown fruits and vegetables, our meals are simple and wholesome.
The main lounge area and swimming pool have been carefully landscaped into the gardens and have dramatic views over the vast rugged skylines.
Activities at the Desert Rose include, short or long bush walks accompanied by your hosts and the Samburu warriors. Bird watching in thick riverine forests; up to 150 species can be viewed on any given day.
Camel safaris are available for either day or overnight trips. Drives in “Stan” (a wooden bodied Land Cruiser) to some of the geological sites of interest. A squirrel helicopter from Loisaba is available for extra excursions into the North, (Koobi Fora fossil site is well worth a visit).
Lying on the eastern shore of Lake Turkana, Koobi Fora is one of the worlds leading prehistoric sites for the study of the evolution of man.
