The Litchi Tree is a converted colonial house once owned by the French General, General Joffre, as a weekend retreat. The Litchi Tree is now a small guest house enjoying views of the Diego Bay and the Mozambique channel.

All of the five rooms are decorated in simple style but with luxurious and comfortable touches and rich polished palissandre floors. The small restaurant (and even smaller bar) is reminiscent of a small Parisian restaurant or wine bar but with Malagasy décor and serves French cuisine with locally sourced ingredients.

The Litchi Tree is located on the outskirts of Joffreville, 4km from the Amber Mountain National Park entrance and is a pleasant 45 minute walk (or 10min drive).

Count how many different endemic species you spot en route to the many waterfalls and crater lakes in the Amber Mountain National Park, one of the most biologically diverse places in all of Madagascar, home to 75 different species of birds, 25 species of mammals, and 59 species of reptiles.
 
For those keen in reptiles a night walk in this area is also highly recommended and rewarding.
