Les Dunes d’Ifaty is located 27 kilometres north of the city of Tuléar, next to the “Mangily” fishing village and is built over an area of 6 hectares amidst a flora of tropical and other typical indigenous plants from this dry region of the south of Madagascar, directly overlooking the Mozambique Channel and its endless coral reef barrier.

The hotel is built in traditional style with local materials. Dry stones from the region adorn the building walls and the frame is made up of Katrafay round wood and other essences from the southern part of Madagascar.

The entire roofing is composed of a double layer of vondry (a traditional Malagasy fibre) with metal sheeting inserted in the middle to ensure waterproofing.

The room and terrace floors, as well as that of the main building, are made up of large massive Anakaraka wood slats. All the windows are similarly made up of massive Anakaraka wood. The interior walls are smoothly finished with warm and bright colours. The hotel’s local architecture and style carefully pay tribute and respect to ecology and comfort principles.

The main restaurant can accommodate 80 guests. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers an international as well as local fresh sea-food based cuisine.

Our colleague, Pierre visited Madagascar in May 2011 and he was a guest at Les Dunes d'Ifaty.
