It is also a key destination for viewing rare endemic species such as the Golden Bamboo Lemur, which the Park was specifically set up to protect, 11 other virtually extinct lemur species and numerous reptiles and frogs.

The lodge is set above the forested river valley. Setam Lodge offers the best accommodation in the area in 22 chalet-style rooms with en-suite shower rooms and 24-hour electricity. It has a large Malagasy and Oriental restaurant with huge glass windows offering great views of the rainforest that surrounds the lodge.

There is also a beautiful breakfast veranda with comfortable garden furniture and umbrellas. The restaurant serves good food in generous portions, which you will feel you deserve after a day scrambling around the forest in search of long-talied primates.Its 20 twin or double comfortable rooms are housed in 10 separate single story bungalows set on a steep hillside, all facing towards the river valley below.

Walks from Setam Lodge into mountainous Ranomafana National Park offer hikers the chance to see a number of important species within its montane rainforests, including golden bamboo lemurs (which it was set up to protect), red-fronted brown, red-bellied, and lesser eastern grey bamboo lemur as well as Milne-Edwards’ sifaka.
