Sangilo Sanctuary Lodge

Nestled around a secluded cove on the Sangilo peninsula, the Sanctuary provides an idyllic escape on the lake in Northern Malawi. Opened in December 2004 it has rapidly become recognised to be a place where good food, a friendly bar and stunning scenery can be enjoyed in perfect peace along with the enchanting secret beach, unique rock caves and crystal clear waters.

The Sanctuary is run on eco-friendly principles; power is provided by solar panels and inverters providing lights, music and 240v sockets for guests' needs. Air conditioning is provided by careful planning of buildings and windows to make the most of lake breezes.

The tastefully furnished cliff-top chalets provide a unique view along the peninsula, to Chilumba island and across Lake Malawi to the magnificent Livingstonia mountain range in Tanzania.

On the beach there is an outdoor restaurant deck with an open-air kitchen and handy access to the well-stocked bar where you can enjoy a night cap after a day of snorkelling and exploring this idyllic area. Fresh fish are brought daily by fishermen in dugout canoes and frequently appear on the simple but carefully prepared menu.

Fishermen, swimmers and snorklers will love the clear, warm waters of Lake Malawi with its amazing variety of fish. Sangilo Sanctuary Lodge has also a fleet of all-terrain quad bikes to give you the freedom to explore the natural beauty of the surroundings from a different perspective. Sangilo Peninsula has stunning views and pleasant walks and visits to the local witchdoctor for those interested in traditional medicine can be arranged.
