Matemo Island Lodge
Matemo Island Resort has an idyllic location in the stunning Quirimbas Archipelago off the coast of Northern Mozambique. The lodge is on the north western corner of the island and looks over what must be one of Africa’s most spectacular beaches.
Accommodation consists of 24 thatched chalets, each with its own en suite bathroom. Guests also have access to their own private outdoor shower. All the chalets have air conditioning, full mosquito screens, outdoor hammocks and satellite TV.
The main communal area of the lodge is on a small hill, so you have great views of the beach whilst having your breakfast, or enjoying sundowners in the spacious bar and lounge. There is also a good sized swimming pool, not that you really need it when the warm, clear and calm Indian Ocean is only metres from your chalet.
A wide variety of watersports includes snorkeling (both from the lodge and further afield on half day trips), scuba diving, hobie cat sailing, kayaking and waterskiing. There are also spectacular opportunities for game fishing with species including Kingfish, Barracuda, Yellow fin Tuna and Sailfish. A trip to nearby Ibo Island is a must for those who want to experience a slice of traditional Mozambican culture.
Matemo is an ideal place to visit for a relaxing getaway, and its watersports facilities are probably the most varied in this part of Mozambique, so this is the definitely the best option for the more activity inclined.

A safe beach and good variety of activities mean that Matemo is well suited for children of all ages. The rooms at Matemo are not big enough for an extra bed, but there are a number interconnecting rooms for families.
