Itinerary

Day 1: Rivendell Guest House, Windhoek, breakfast included
Land at Windhoek International Airport today where you will be met and escorted to the city centre for a briefing on your self-drive holiday.Rivendell Guest House is located in a quiet suburb close to the city centre and has just ten guest rooms.  Relax around the swimming pool or take the afternoon to explore the shops and restaurants of the city.

Days 2 & 3: Zebra River Lodge, all meals included
Drive south towards Sossuslvei and Sesriem Canyon to Zebra River Lodge. Here you can enjoy self-guided walks into the mountains, or take guided drives to the spring pools in the lush valley or through the extensive, private concession area.  Accommodation is in lovingly decorated rooms close to the main house.

Days 4 & 5: Desert Homestead, dinner & breakfast included
Head north to the true desert landscape of Sossuvlei. Desert Homestead is beautifully decorated with a bar, restaurant and pool, and optional horse riding or nature drives. The lodge is designed in a rustic, farm style and is located just 27km from the entrance to Sesriem & Sossusvlei. Enjoy home cooked meals and friendly service.

We highly recomend taking a guided tour of the National Park area of Sesriem and onwards towards Sossusvlei, around 70km from the Park entrance. The entrance opens at sunrise and this is the best time of day to see the dunes. Enjoy the amazing scenery of the desert, and maybe take a short walk to Deadvlei, a bizarre collection of ancient camelthorn trees, or climb the nearby dunes. Return to Sesriem and perhaps take a look at Sesriem Canyon before returning to the lodge.

Days 6 & 7: Cornerstone Guest House, Swakopmund, breakfast included
Swakopmund itself is a fascinating and intriguing resort town, complete with German half wooden architecture, monuments, historic buildings, well maintained gardens and palm lined avenues, coffee bars and great seafood restaurants.  Swakopmund is the adventure centre of Southern Africa offering activities such as sand boarding, tandem parachuting, fishing & quad biking which can be arranged prior to arrival.  Alternatively, a half day boat cruise from Walvis Bay may offer the opportunity to see dolphins, fur seals and many species of marine birds.

Day 8: Cape Cross Lodge, sea-view room, dinner & breakfast included.
Drive the short distance up the desolate coast road today to Cape Cross, a National Park site home to one of the largest fur seal colonies in Southern Africa, numbers can reach 100,000 during breeding season. Literally metres from the fertile Atlantic Ocean, Cape Cross Lodge presents a unique and serene stop for travellers along this vast untamed, seldom explored wilderness on the Skeleton Coast.  Accommodation is provided in beautifully furnished luxury sea-facing rooms.

Day 9: Camp Kipwe, Damaraland, dinner & breakfast included
Camp Kipwe is situated within the Twyfelfontein Conservancy in the Damaraland area  renowned for its geology, unusual rock formations, rock paintings, and rare desert-adapted flora and fauna.  Relax and unwind in the lounge – the mountain views from here are breathtaking as are the stunning sunsets.  There is also a swimming pool where many guests head after a days activities. Accommodation is in 8 igloo-shaped double bungalows -  optional activities include elephant nature drives in search of Namibia's desert dwelling elephant.

Days 10 & 11:  Okaukuejo Rest Camp, Etosha, breakfast included
It is a couple of hours from here to Etosha National Park which offers excellent game viewing opportunities, either by day while simply driving or by night from floodlit waterholes.  The Park is dominated by the vast Etosha salt pan, and many water holes exist, joined by a network of well maintained gravel roads to enable visitors the best chances of seeing the many inhabitants of Namibia’s premier wildlife reserve.

During 2007 the three Etosha rest camps saw extensive renovations and major improvements to their facilities.  Spend the evening relaxing with a drink at one of the seats overlooking the floodlit waterhole.  Watch the theatre unfold as predators and prey alike take their place in the shadows for the chance to get a refreshing drink.

Namibia Wildlife Resorts is now offering, for the first time in the 100 year history of the park, guided day & night drives from the three rest camps.

Day 12:  Onguma Bush Camp, Etosha, dinner & breakfast included
Spend today making your way slowly across the Park to the eastern most rest camp of Namutoni.  You may like to stop at the central, Halali camp for lunch and a rest during the heat of midday before continuing later this afternoon. This quiet and well positioned lodge offers six air-conditioned thatched bungalows, one family room, a campsite, swimming pool and open restaurant.  The bird life in this area is outstanding with over 300 species having been recorded.  The farm is also home to the largest breeding colony of white-backed vulture in Namibia.

Day 13:  Okonjima Main Camp View room, all meals & activities included
Head south for a couple of hours to Okonjima which is home to the Africat foundation. The foundation works with farmers and the public to conserve the big cat species of Namibia.  The unique and inclusive activities here include lion viewing, nature walks, cheetah & leopard tracking, and bushman walks.  On the day of arrival you will be invited to join an afternoon activity, usually tracking leopard in the immense reserve.

After dinner you will also be offered the opportunity to visit a night hide where many nocturnal animals, including porcupine, honey badger and leopard are frequently sighted.  The following morning you will be taken on a drive to visit some of the 60-70 cheetah presently being rehabilitated or in some cases cared for on a more permanent basis.

Day 14: Fly out of Windhoek
Depart Okonjima after brunch today and make your way back to Windhoek International Airport for your return flight.
