Kulala Desert Lodge is tucked away at the foot of the magnificent red dunes of Sossusvlei in the heart of the Namib Desert on the private Kulala Wilderness reserve. The main area of the lodge comprises two adjoining thatched roofs each climbing to a peak mimicking the shape of the dunes. A pool with a wrap around veranda overlooking a waterhole is ofetn shared with swooping birds eager for a drink from this oasis.

An open fireplace on one side of the lounge is often lit during the cold winter months (mid June – August) when night-time in the desert can be particularly chilly. During the rest of the year the high thatched ceiling and stone floors keep the main areas cool. On the opposite side of the building, steps lead up to a roof terrace, an ideal sundowner spot.

Accommodation is in 16 thatch and canvas kulalas (chalets) which are all built on wooden platforms to a make the most of these fantastic views and on clear evenings mattresses can be moved onto the rooftops for a night under the Namibia’s famous night skies. Each kulalas is spacious and cool, with polished wooden floors and two queen-sized or one large double bed.

Made of canvas and wood with a thatched roof, the kulalas are all raised slightly off the ground allowing for maximised air flow to keep the rooms cool during the hot summer months. Built onto the back of your tent is a clay and brick en-suite bathroom.

Four of these kulalas are joined together in pairs on one large wooden deck; these are designed for families or a small group of friends traveling together.

With a private road leading into the Namib National Park this lodge is ideal for easy access to Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei and the surrounding sand dunes. Activities include nature drives, sundowners, balloon safaris and a Sossusvlei adventure with lunch amongst the dunes.
