Rwanda's captivating natural features offer some hard-to-beat experiences, from the mountain gorillas in the Parc National des Volcans, to the primate nirvana of Nyungwe Forest - a unique rainforest national park which has 25% of Africa's primate species, including chimpanzees and colobus monkeys, which have been seen in troops of over three hundred.
Urban centres such as Butare and the capital Kigali have forged ahead, opening new places to stay, eat, drink, dance and meet the local population, while the shoreline of Lake Kivu in the west has developed some simple but attractive lodges and hotels to cater for the increasing number of visitors.
With Rwanda now a prosperous, vibrant, safe and energetic nation, the opportunity to engage with the 'Land of a Thousand Hills' should not be missed.

When to go
Rwanda can be visited at any time of the year, however the long rains which take place during April and May should be avoided if possible. The short rains in November can make gorilla and chimp tracking hard work, but it is perfectly feasible to travel at this time of year (and in fact the chimp sightings are best at this time).
Getting There
Rwanda's main international airport is in Kigali. There are no direct flights from the UK. British visitors have the choice of flying with Kenya Airways via Nairobi or Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa. SN Brussels (an airline) have direct flights from Brussels offering the best option if travelling from Europe.
Visas
British and United States citizens do not require a visa for Rwanda, however please check this before any travel, as requirements do change. Other nationalities should check with their embassy.
