Year Round
Booby Rocks
Maximum depth: 25m
Booby Rock, northwest of Praslin, forms an underwater slope, interspersed with granite boulders. Eagle rays, turtles and dolphins, sharks and barracuda often surround the diver while soldier fish inhabit the reef tops. Whale sharks are a distinct possibility in season.
Ave Maria Rocks
Maximum depth: 19m
A series of enormous granite boulders drop down in dramatic vertical walls and swim-troughs to about 15m. The protected gullies and bays are inhabited by a prolific fish population including all types of ray, giant moray eels, Napolean wrasse and reef sharks. They are also visited by turtles.
Channel Rocks
Maximum depth: 14m
Mid-channel between Praslin and La Digue, this is a great place for a drift dive amid shoaling fusiliers, snappers and reef fish. Gullies and holes provide shelter for various marine species and small reef sharks and turtles are found.
Coral Gardens
Maximum depth: 14m
Off east Curieuse, this shallow reef contains an abundance of interesting corals and marine life. It is an excellent site for lionfish, octopus, morays, scorpion fish and a multitude of other colourful species. This protected site is a perfect for beginners and excellent for photography and night dives.
Red Point
Maximum depth: 18m
Off the east end of Curieuse, the submarine rocks attract a range of coral fish species. The gullies and overhangs of the red granitic headland shelter giant stingrays and nurse sharks; the point attracts shoaling jacks and barracuda. Sharks and turtles are seen frequently.
Roche en bas
Maximum depth: 14m
Between Praslin and La Digue, this circular granite formation is adorned with corals that provide exciting swim-throughs and crevices to explore. Bumphead parrotfish, Hawksbill turtles, Eagle rays, stingray and white tip sharks are all regular visitors.
St. Pierre Island
Maximum depth: 10m
Off Praslin's Anse Volbert, this shallow dive in the Curieuse Marine Park is ideal for beginners and macro photography. With nocturnal octopus, lobster, Spanish dancers and sea hares, night dives are rewarding.
White Bank
Maximum depth: 20m
Near Ave Maria, this site provides a series of rocks in which schools of barracuda, unicorn fish, jacks and snappers gather. The volcano-shaped granitic formation provides numerous swim-throughs and canyons. Giant puffer fish, lobster, octopus and reef sharks can all be found here.
Seasonal
Anse Possession
Maximum depth: 14m
March to October
The large coral formations of this north Praslin site contain morays, lionfish, scorpion fish and many other colourful reef fish. Good for beginners and night dives.
Anse Severe
Maximum depth: 16m
February to November
North of La Digue, the granitic outcrop is covered with soft corals and provides a multitiude of overhangs and crevices. Good for photographers.
Round Island
Maximum depth: 14m
September to May
East of Praslin, the site offers a long-range dive. A gentle drift along the side of the island can reveal giant stingrays and sleeping reef sharks. Several species of large grouper can be found in holes and concealed under overhangs.
