Madikwe Game Reserve, in the North West province, is one of South Africa's largest Big Five game reserves. Set in a malaria-free area near the border with Botswana, the 76 000 hectare (187 800 acre) reserve supports a diverse combination of bushveld and the semi-arid Kalahari.

Madikwe Safari Lodge offers guests a choice of three exclusive camps in West, North and East Camp totaling 20 luxury suites. Each suite features a comfortable sitting area with fireplace in the bedroom and a spacious dressing area. The ensuite bathroom offers a large bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers and French doors opening onto a wooden deck with a private plunge pool.

All the accommodation is nestled on a gentle slope of the rolling hills above the flat plains of Madikwe, the conical roofs and chimneys of the Lodge blend imperceptibly into the surrounding game-filled bushveld, intersected by the Marico River and framed by the Dwarsberg Hills.

With its earthy plastered walls, dry packed stone work and rough wooden beams, Madikwe Safari Lodge provides a great base from which to explore this exciting game reserve.

The guiding here is some of the best around. In an open vehicle your enthusiastic guide will show you as much wildlife as possible. Evening game drives will be cut in half by the obligatory sundowners, equally, morning game drives will have an all important coffee/chocolate and Amarula (the African equivalent to 'Baileys') break!

Meals served at the lodge are delicious and plentiful - big breakfasts when you get back from safari-ing in the morning, lovely lunches and atmospheric evening meals sometimes in the boma (outside).
