The services and hospitality from the experienced staff, the décor and finishing blends in with the natural environment, thus giving a feeling of tranquility.
Selous Wilderness Camp is set along the palm-fringed edges of the wide, meandering Rufiji River, which is one of the largest water systems in East Africa.
With its associated wetlands, lakes and swamps, it is one of the most outstanding ecological systems in the whole of Eastern Africa. Due to this unique ecosystem the Selous Game Reserve was designated as a World Heritage site.
Covering approximately 50,000 square kilometres, the Selous is one of the largest protected areas in the world and also Africa’s oldest protected area. With its diverse habitat, the northern photographic tourism sector is one of the most beautiful and game-rich areas of this whole ecosytem.
Three-quarters of the Selous consists of woodland of various types, short grassy plains and seasonally flooded pans. Impressive riverine forests and often impenetrable, dense thickets are important habitats of the Selous and it is within one of these many riverine forests that the new camp is located.
