Semliki Safari Lodge
Semliki Safari Lodge is situated in the Semliki Valley Wildlife Reserve (formerly called Toro Game Reserve), in the Western Rift Valley. It is the only accommodation in over 500 square kilometres of wilderness, offering a truly private experience. Built out of local materials, the lodge has a rustic feeling of a traditional tented safari lodge.
Guests stay in large canvas tents with permanent thatched roofs. Each tent includes en-suite bathrooms with running water and private verandas with a stunning panoramic view. The beds are four posters draped in muslin with Persian rugs occupying the floor.
The lodge is the very essence of comfort. Easy sofas are piled with cushions, there is plenty of lounging space, books to read, warm muffins brought to you in bed with your morning tea or coffee, and soft blankets on the beds. The food at the lodge has often been referred to as the 'Best food in Uganda' - everything is home-made; from the bread baked daily, to the soups, the relishes and chutneys.
Semliki Safari Lodge has a pool that overlooks the Blue Mountains of the Congo, making it ideal for relaxing. There are a large number of activities including chimpanzee tracking, jungle walks, bird watching, game drives, guided walks and hiking, fishing, spotlit night drives and visits to local communities.
In conjunction with Indiana University, Semliki Lodge are running a chimpanzee research project. The habitat is ideal to collect data which will help to further understand the evolution of man, particularly 'bipedalism' - walking on two feet. The research is in the early stages, but guests at Semliki Safari Lodge are able to accompany the resident researchers into the forest to assist with the habituation and research of these fascinating creatures.
Ali Walls, one of our consultants has recently returned from this lodge. Please feel free to call and speak to him directly on 0207 622 5114.
