South Luangwa
The Luangwa Valley marks the end of the Rift Valley and is one of the great unspoilt wilderness areas in Africa. Flanked to one side by the Muchinga escarpment and on the other by the giant meandering Luangwa River, there are two distinct safari areas; the South Luangwa National Park and the more remote North Luangwa National Park.
In South Luangwa extreme high and low water levels result in a very dynamic habitat with 400+ bird species and an exceptionally wide variety of mammals. The famous ‘walking safari’ originated here and it remains one of the best ways to explore this wild region.
Robin Pope Safaris are synonymous with safari excellence in South Luangwa. They operate three fixed camps in the park (Nkwali Camp, Nsefu Camp and Tena Tena Camp), all in prime positions along the Luangwa River, and a number of smaller bush camps used for walking safaris.
