Kalamu Walking Trail
Wild and remote, the legendary South Luangwa National Park is sustained by the waters of the Luangwa River, an impressive watercourse that famously supports high densities of game along its banks. The area is perhaps even better known for the role it has played in the development of the walking safari. Continuing in this tradition, Kalamu Trails allows safari goers to experience the thrill, majesty and pristine nature of the Luangwa wilderness on foot.

ITINERARY

Day 1 & 2
The safari begins with guests settling into Kalamu Lagoon Camp, South Luangwa National Park, for one night before going on to explore the untouched northern banks of the Luangwa River on foot. There area is rich with herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as abundant hippo pods and antelope.

Species such as Thornicroft's giraffe and Cookson's wildebeest occur nowhere else in the world and the area's leopard viewing is quite legendary. The main predators are lion, leopard, spotted hyaena and wild dogs. The dry season along the Luangwa River - when all game is forced to congregate along its banks as water resources dwindle elsewhere - is an experience every Africa fan should indulge in.

Day 3
Spend the morning relaxing  and enjoying  the wildlife coming to drink at the nearby Minga Pan during the heat of the day. Once the day cools off slightly, trailists walk on the northern bank of the Luangwa River to Chinengwe Riverbed Camp.

Day 4
Follow the course of the Lusiwasi River around to the third overnight stop - Kalamu Star-bed Camp. All walking takes place in the unique wilderness area on the northern bank of the Luangwa River, where there are no vehicles or roads.

Day 5 & 6
Return to Kalamu Lagoon Camp by vehicle in time for brunch on the lagoon. Spend two nights at Kalamu Lagoon Camp, exploring the area on game drives and bush walks.

This 6 night package is £2,098 per person on sharing basis inclusive of accommodation, full-board meals, game viewing activities, local drinks, park fees & return Sefofane flights Lusaka to Kalamu Lagoon.
