Lazy Lagoon
Lazy Lagoon Lodge lies on its own island in the Zanzibar Channel offshore from the town of Bagamoyo, the former capital of German East Africa and the 'gateway to the Dark Continent'. The island boasts an impressive nine kilometres of deserted beach, and is also a natural reserve that is home to many small mammals, mangrove trees and patches of indigenous forest.
The lodge has 12 self contained beach bandas with twin or double beds. The rooms are spacious and airy, with wide shaded verandas and a loft area that serves as a lounge, but can also be adapted into an extra bedroom for children. The lodge has an inviting swimming pool set beneath the high vaulted makuti roof of the central lounge area – which has great views out over the Indian Ocean.
Days at Lazy Lagoon are all about sun worshipping, swimming, snorkelling and enjoying the pristine island environment. There are kayaks, windsurfers and sailing dinghies (Laser II’s) to explore the lagoon and mangrove forest, sunset dhow cruises to nearby sand islands and the coral reef can be arranged, and historical town of Bagamoyo is easily reached for a slice of culture.
Lazy Lagoon is an idyllic Robinson Crusoe Island, and is a great place to wind down after a week on safari.
