Emerson & Green Hotel, Zanzibar

The Emerson & Green Hotel is a striking and original boutique style hotel in the midst of Stone Town in Zanzibar. The building used to be the Zanzibar residence of one of the richest men in the Swahili Empire, and has now been lovingly converted into a unique 16 room hotel.

These stylish and often unconventional rooms are individually furnished with antique Zanzibari chests, carved Swahili panelling, Arabian carpets, Persian stone baths and many have elegant latticed balconies overlooking the town. The hotel décor includes old paintings, ceramics and hand embroidered linen and, by design, the rooms have no telephones or televisions.

Emerson & Green is the second tallest building in Stone Town, and the views from its legendary open air ‘Tower-Top’ restaurant are spectacular. With food to match, this is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary eating venues in Africa.
