Flame Tree Cottages

Flame Tree Cottages is a small 16 room beach hotel situated on the North Western side of the Peninsula on the North Coast of Zanzibar, right near Nungwi village. Owned and built by a Zanzibari-Scottish couple, it is set in a tropical garden, with a mixture of Coconut palms, Casuarinas trees, Frangipani trees, Banana trees and flower-beds full of colourful plants set amidst the lawns.

The cottages are individually styled with spacious rooms and large verandas, and are either sea-facing or garden-facing. Some have sitting rooms and small kitchens, and all have en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold water, air conditioning, ceiling fans and refrigerators. The new honeymoon / family suite ‘Desert Rose’ has a large bedroom with an open plan sitting room and two verandas (one sea-facing, the other garden-facing). It is furnished with a four poster bed and antique furniture.

Activities centre on the sea: the in-house ‘mashua’ (traditional wooden boat) takes people fishing, snorkeling and for sunset sails. Flame Tree Cottages now also has a swimming pool for guests to enjoy.
Nungwi has five Diving Centre offering diving experience for the qualified and novices. Enjoy picnic lunches on Mnemba Island, visit the nearby turtle sanctuary or just relax on the hammocks and loungers.
