HOLIDAYS IN ZIMBABWE

A diverse country with warm welcoming people, this controversial choice will reap great benefits for those willing to take the chance on this re-awakening gem. From the famous Victoria Falls with an array of adventure activities, the nearby Hwange National Park renowned for its large herds of elephants to the ancient Ruins of Great Zimbabwe built by a forgotten a civilisation.

With the re-investment into Zimbabwe, it is easy to access the three key areas Victoria Falls, Hwange and Kariba / Mana Pools. The US Dollar is now the main trading currency and the possibility to self drive has now re-opened to the International visitor market, which was a very popular, excellent value way to explore this country and reach some of the more off the beaten track areas.

This land locked country is best accessed from its neighbours South Africa, which is serviced by daily flights from UK with major airlines such as British Airways, South African Airways, Virgin Atlantic and not forgetting many European carriers. From Johannesburg it is approximately a two hour flight to Victoria Falls, Bulawayo or Harare the capital.
 
Other access points which are particularly good for the Mana Pools area for example, is Lusaka the capital of Zambia, its northern neighbour. Or the excellent combination with its western neighbour Botswana for other safari opportunities or some relaxing beach stays with it eastern neighbour Mozambique. Finally not forgetting the luxurious steam train journey from Pretoria in South Africa with the magnificent Rovos Rail.

The traditional safari season in Africa is June to the end of October when vegetation is less dense and wildlife is drawn to water sources. The Victoria Falls are however in full flood from November to April and there is much to be said for viewing it other times of the year when you can see the spectacular rock formation behind the scenes! And the ‘green’ safari season offers excellent rates and an opportunity to see different things, such as phenomenal birding and the birth of many of the young animals when vegetation is lush and plentiful.
