The Chimanimani National Park runs for about 30 kilometres from north to south long the natural border with Mozambique. The landscape varies from the gentle rolling countryside near Nyanga in the north to the granite boulders of the Chimanimani Mountains in the southern parts of Zimbabwe. This sparsely populated area is lush, undeveloped and rich with safari animals.
At the southern end of this exquisite Zimbabwean mountain chain, the volcanic peaks of the Chimanimani Mountains in the south are an avid walker / junior mountaineer’s playground with hundreds of rivers, waterfalls and pools to entice bathers after a long day's hike.
The most southern range is the Bvumba Mountain whose misty peaks provide vantage points on clear days across into Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Highlights of the area include the Bvumba Botanical Gardens, the Bridal Falls of Chimanimani (Second highest falls in Africa), the hot springs of the Save River Valley (the valley of baobabs), Birchenough Bridge (A 300 m steel arch suspension bridge replicating the bridge at Sydney Harbour) to mention a few.
The beautiful scenery of the Eastern Highlands is ideally explored by self drive or guided tour and activities in the area include hiking, swimming, golf, fishing and horse riding as well as shopping for local artefacts, sculptures and knitwear. The Shona and Ndebeli cultures are open to explore, and the people are gracious and accommodating to all who visit.
