The lodge
Set on its own small game reserve, with sable, wildebeest and giraffe, the lodge offers bush walks, game drives, hiking, horse riding and mountain biking, as well as a base to explore the scenic highlights of the Eastern Highlands, including waterfalls and dramatic viewpoints.
The lodge itself has a gentrified farmhouse feel, with honey-coloured rock walls, a double volume lounge and balcony to make the most of the view, rich sofas and family history and free standing village style rooms, each with its own balcony.
Some overlook the mountain vista, others the pond and gardens while one double family unit is situated next to the pool and sauna. Inn on Rupurara has 17 lodges, with a capacity of 36 guests overall. Six of these are known as the Waterfront suites, overlooking a superb water feature nestling in the valley.
The others are known as the Valley View suites, providing guests with spectacular views of the local mountains and valleys, covered with Msasa trees and a variety of indigenous Highveld or mountain vegetation. The interiors have a somewhat Andalucía feel with emboia furniture, white walls and Mediterranean fabrics – incongruous, but it does work, and the bathrooms have – unusually in Zimbabwe – separate showers and baths.
The area is noted for its leisure and sporting amenities and facilities, including golf at the Claremont course, horse riding on Rupurara Estate, scenic walks, trout fishing, game viewing and birding, and the Inn is within easy reach of local visitor attractions, including two golf courses and a casino.
