Lodge at the Ancient City

The Lodge integrates with the surrounding trees and boulders of the site with dry stonewalling and soaring thatch structures.

The Lodge at the Ancient City provides the perfect location from which to explore the Great Zimbabwe. The impressive stone and thatch lounge is set high upon a granite outcrop with huge boulders forming the main part of the overall architecture

The Lodge at the Ancient City has 44 en-suite rooms, 14 lodges with twin double beds and 4 family rooms sleeping 4. The Lodge at the Ancient City can provide historical guides to take guests on detailed trips through the ancient capital of Zimbabwe. 

Also available are drives and walks around the nearby lake Mutirikwi, recreational park and into adjacent tribal areas are also available. Guests can also book trips to see some of the local wild life including white rhinoceros, hippo, crocodile and various antelope and bird species. The lodge also provides a swimming pool, gift shop and laundry service.

Other worthwhile mentions in the area would be the Great Zimbabwe Hotel is within walking distance to the Ruins. Simple, with functional rooms, a good pool, and a dining room that harks back to table d’hôte. 

Norma Jeans is furthest along and is the most charming of the three, it has a farm house appeal, with the most magnificent gardens overlooking Lake Kyle. There are only 8 rooms, with self catering options in addition. Three star, it nevertheless has an appeal and is beautifully maintained.
